April 2012

Its been nearly 6 months since I last posted on this blog. We have been very busy, with our first holiday cottage doing  better than expected last year. We welcomed many visitors to the barn and with out exception they seemed to love it. Every one was surprised how beautiful the area is, quiet but still with in easy reach of all the amenities.
Our second cottage 'The Threshing Barn' is due to open this year and after a fantastic month away in Aus we hit the ground running on March 18th. Lee and Rob were  in and concrete floor poured by the end  of the week. Huge progress with roof insulation and plaster boarding quick to follow. Most of the stud walling is now in place and the stairs were fitted last week, amazing! You can really see how it will look. First fix electrics finished and plumbing due next week. We are definitely on target to welcome our first guests in late July.
Marty is working hard to give the old roof timbers their final finish. This is a very dirty and unpleasant job, lots of old rotting wood dust and the 5 star wood worm treatment, YUK! The end result will be spectacular.
Have a look at our progress when our new facebook page is up and running.

August 5th update

Everything going well. Marty is building a terrace at back of the farm as we have realised our visitors need to use the courtyard and we have no where to sit in the evening. Looks great!  Our 3rd party of guests are staying at the moment and they seem to be having a relaxing time. The weather is changeable but there have been some great summer days. We visited the North Devon show on Wednesday which was interesting and very busy, it took us an hour to queue to get in. Very British!
Things are growing like mad and we are finding it difficult to keep up with the weeds but even weeds look beautiful if they are allowed to grow to their full height. Some are 6ft! Don't forget to check out our website: www.higherpatcholeholidaycottagesdevon.co.uk.
As you can see from the photo below the barns are looking great.

Our first visitors July 2011

This has been a really busy time, finishing all the last minute detailing on the barn. It was a real achievement and wonderful to see it all come together and to welcome our first guests. The weather has not been great but there is such alot to see and do here that you cannot stay in even on rainy days.
We are looking forward to welcoming more visitors in August. Marty is even now starting to think about his next challenge, 'The threshing Barn'. Our new website has been live for about a month now http://www.higherpatcholeholidaycottagesdevon.co.uk/ check it out to see our progress.
